World half marathon champion Jacob Kiplimo of Uganda delivered a masterclass performance to win gold in 27:09.19.

Team Kenya's long drought in the event continued having last won the event in 2002 edition in Manchester courtesy of Wilberforce Talel.

Zakayo led a sizeable number of the opening laps as Kenya employed strategy to control the pace.

Zakayo, however, faded allowing South Africa's Adrian Wildschutt to take charge and the South African upped the pace with the 10 athletes falling into a single file.
