Ministry of Education has released the calendar of co-curricular activities for term two games for both secondary, and primary schools.

According to Principal Secretary Julius Jwan, the national secondary Term 2 championships will run from September8-13 in Nakuru county.

The announcement was contained in a circular to regional, county, and sub-county directors of education.

Term Two events comprise soccer, volleyball, netball, basketball, hockey, handball, rugby 7’s swimming, and racquet games. However, 15’s rugby and soccer under-16 will not be held.

The 3-on-3 basketball format has been introduced in schools and will also feature during the Federation of East Africa Schools Association Championships in Arusha, Tanzania. The regional games will be held from September 13 to 25.

Yesterday, Nyanza Secondary Schools Sports Association secretary, Geoffrey Nyantika said the regional officials will meet on Friday to release the regional calendar and host county.

“Because of the number of disciplines, we are thinking of having the games at Homa Bay High School and Asumbi TTC in Homa Bay County,” said Nyantika. He added that the Kisii County games will be held at Cardinal Otunga High School, Mosocho, and Kisii School.

At the same time, national primary school games will be held in Machakos from September 8 to 12 in Machakos while Special Needs Education primary and secondary games will be staged at Hill School in Eldoret from 9-12.

School games resumed last month after a two-year hiatus following the suspension of sports activities in March 2020 following the Covid-19 pandemic. Kigari TTC in Embu staged the national athletics championships from June 30 to July 3.

According to the Ministry of Education directive, Covid-19 containment measures will be followed during the championships.

A health worker from the Ministry of Health has been recommended to attend all the events to guide on safety and health measures.
