The Nandi Mountain Running weekend meet scheduled for November 28 has been moved to January 2, according to Athletics Kenya’s chief administrative officer,  Susan Kamau.

“The postponement has been necessitated by the new changes in the calendar of World Mountain Running,” she said in a letter to the Central Rift region secretary.

She said the race was postponed following consultations between AK Mountain Running sub-committee and Central Rift Region.

The Longonot Mountain Running race initially scheduled for January 2 has been postponed indefinitely.  AK Mountain Running co-ordinator, Peter Angwenyi, said new dates will be announced later.

The Meru Mountain Running race will be held on February 26 according to AK’s calendar.

The events are part of the preparations for the World Mountain Running and World Long Distance Mountain Running Championships to be held in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

The 2020 World Mountain Running and the World Long Distance Mountain Running Championships earlier scheduled for November 13-14 were canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic pushed to February 2022.

However, earlier this month, the event was further postponed to November 2022 due to the Covid-19 restrictions in Thailand. The date has not been announced.

According to a statement from the World Mountain Running Running Association, participating countries will enter their preliminary teams by August 2022 and final teams by October 2022.

Junior athletes taking part in the event should be between the 16 and 19 as of  December 31, 2022.

The lower age limit for the senior mountain races is 18 as of December 31, 2022, while the lower age limit for the trail races is 20 by December 31, 2022.
