A four-year ban from swimming activities looms over Kenya Swimming Federation if the country doesn't conduct elections.
The country has been on the radar of world governing body, FINA, for the past three years and despite the enactment of a new constitution in January, KSF polls are yet to be held with a section of the Interim Management Committee(IMC) members challenging the polls in court.
Swimming stakeholders now want the IMC disbanded to pave way for the long awaited elections.
In a statement on Saturday, the swimming fraternity said following the enactment of the constitution in January, the IMC have delayed the elections date deliberately due to personal interests.
The current standoff has seen KSF officials suspended by world governing body and a further delay on elections may lead to total ban which will ultimately affect Kenya swimmers in the future.
The stakeholders led by Teddy Wamuyu of Nairobi County, John Karani of the county Caucus and Elijah Kimani said at the moment Kenyan swimmers need approval from CANA and FINA to compete at an international event.
"It's quite unfortunate we have to get approval from the two swimming bodies to compete internationally. We are tired of this drama and something needs to be done urgently to save the sport," the statement said.
Wamuyu said the future of swimmers in the country is at stake and asked for Sports Dispute Tribunal boss John Ohaga to chart the way forward and save the situation.
“ We have been given too many chances by FINA to get our house in order. If we don't, we will get banned for four years and our swimmers will suffer,”added Wamuyu.
