The Nyanza South derby between Shabana and Migori Youth will highlight Wednesday's National Super League fixtures.

Unfortunately, their followers will have no chance to rally behind the players since the match will be played at the Narok Stadium following the suspension of sports activities in Nyanza and Western regions, occasioned by the Covid-19 containment measures.

After an impressive run under coach Robert Ojienda, Shabana has gone four games without a win and tomorrow's game is a must-win for the former Kenya Premier side.

Ojienda, a former Migori Youth coach, said: “It’s a game we have to win since we have not done well in the recent past. The first team to settle will emerge with maximum points. I expect a highly tactical game.”

Shabana will, however, miss the services of four key players due to injuries. Nehemiah Onchiri, Elly Augustine, Coulibaly Mohammed and Hillary Minishi are out with long-term injuries.

“The absence of the four players has affected the team’s balance. It’s a big blow to our promotion ambitions but we remain committed,” added Ojienda.

He noted that fatigue is also taking a toll on the team following a congested run of fixtures.

Meanwhile, Migori Youth will be bubbling with confidence after a supporter, Julius Ayatta, donated boots, goalkeeper gloves and shin guards to the players.

Migori Youth coach Wilson Aol said the ban on playing at home has been a blessing in disguise for them.

“We have had enough time to train and plan for the game. This is a derby because we both hail from Nyanza South and so I expect a tough game. Shabana are fighting for a top-three position while we are targeting mid-table position,” said Aol.

In other games, Mwatate United will hope to stop runaway leaders Talanta when the two teams face off at Wundanyi Stadium while Coast Stima welcome fourth-placed Fortune Sacco at Mbaraki grounds.

At Eldoret ASK grounds, bottom-of-the-log Soy United will entertain Vihiga Bullets as Nairobi Stima and Kisumu Hot Stars battle it out at Camp Toyoyo.

Mt Kenya United and Modern Coast Rangers will battle it out at Ruaraka grounds while Murang’a Seal host Gusii FC at Sebastian Park. Kibera Black Stars host  Mully Children’s Family  (MCF) at Ligi Ndogo grounds.
