KAS to issue new regulations for sports academies

Kenya Academy of Sports is set to issue a set of regulations aimed at streamlining operations at sports academies and training centres countrywide.

According to KAS Acting CEO Doreen Odhiambo, there is need for the academies to comply with the internationally-accepted regulations and standards to help in the growth of the sports locally and make Kenyan talents acceptable at the international stage.

“Our ultimate goal is to make sure we breed a crop of talents that are widely accepted not just locally but at the international stage. This will help grow our sports disciplines and make Kenya a hub of talents in various fields,” she said in a statement on Thursday.

KAS will be looking to regulate the establishment and management of sports academies, accredit sports courses to be offered by the academies and the centres, and issue certificates of recognition.

They will also guide the monitoring and evaluation process of all academies and set standards and special curriculum for trainers, managers and agents.

There will also be the standardisation of training curriculum to ensure 30 per cent of it is theory, to include training in written and spoken English and Kiswahili to enable sportsmen and women to express themselves fluently, while maintaining practical sessions to 70 per cent.
