Over 3,000 runners have confirmed participation in the inaugural edition of the Great Conservation Run which will go down at Uhuru Gardens on Sunday.
The event will comprise of 10km race for both senior men and women and 5km fun run.
The race organised by Multi-Touch International aims at raising funds to buy 40 billion tree seedlings which will be planted in several areas across the country.
Multi-Touch International director Christine Wangare said the first of the seedlings will be planted at Uhuru Gardens immediately after Sunday’s race, before rolling out the exercise in other parts of the country. The event’s theme is ‘40 billion trees, one million jobs’ with the funds raised going towards purchasing the seedlings as well as paying the youth who will conduct the tree planting exercise.
Over Sh110,000 prize money will be shared by the 10km senior race podium finishers where they will be awarded Sh20,000, Sh15,000 and Sh5,000 for first, second and third respectively for both men and women while the 5km top three finishers will be awarded Sh5,000, Sh4,000 and Sh3,000 shopping vouchers respectively.
The programme will start with the 5km race at 7:15am while the main race starts at 8:00am.
