Groups that get Uwezo Fund loans should be instructed how to spend the money wisely, a Laikipia county administrator has said.
Ng’arua assistant county commissioner Rufus Kihara said the money is intended to uplift the socio-economic status of the beneficiaries and create jobs.
He was speaking on Saturday when Laikipia West MP Wachira Karani disbursed Uwezo Fund cheques to 180 groups at Nyahururu Municipal Stadium.
Kihara urged the groups to repay the loans so other groups can benefit.
He said more youth and women groups should be encouraged to apply for the funds.
Karani said there is more money to lend to more groups.
“The constituency has received more than Sh21 million. So far, 240 groups have received funds amounting to Sh16 million. There is still more cash and I urge more groups to apply,” the MP said.
He said some people are politicising the allocations and claiming the money is being misused.
Karani urged residents to scrutinise the list of beneficiaries.
