A vocal MP from ODM leader Raila Odinga’s backyard intentionally failed to meet party’s deadline for the submission of nomination papers. The MP, fearing he would be rigged out, chose to pretend he was time barred. He is said to be uncomfortable with some top party officials, who seem to be favouring a business magnate who is also eying the ticket. The legislator is now said to be looking for a symbol since he will run as an independent candidate.

The move by Parliament to use virtual and physical meetings during committee sessions came with benefits and drawbacks in equal measure. MPs can attend sessions while in their constituencies but some have been abusing the privilege. When virtual sessions start, chairs of the committee will always have quorum as almost all members will log in. Few minutes into the meetings, chairs of the committees have found themselves alone as members leave their gadgets on and proceed to attend to other matters. In one committee session, the chair had a full quorum when the meeting started but half way through, he found himself alone with guests who were making a presentation. A little bird tells Corridors some MPs just log in for the allowance.

It appears that some politicians will use every opportunity to sell their candidature in the run-up to the general election. A vocal MP became a source of irritation when he was invited to speak at his friend’s presidential launch. The day was for the presidential hopeful and his party but the MP never wasted a moment before he started to talk about his own humble beginnings and achievements as a legislator. He was allocated two minutes to speak but he went on for about a quarter an hour. All this time,  talked about how he had made a difference in society.
