Mbale town residents yesterday woke up
to drama when a 25-year-old man was
circumcised in public.
Kevin Chamwada was ambushed and
captured by 50 youths who camped at
his door.
They said he had dodged the
knife all his life.
The father of two woke up at 5.30am
to relieve himself but was immediately
grabbed by the youths.
The youths said
he went into hiding during the recent
mass initiation ceremonies.
Chamwada tried to escape but was
marched in the streets and cut, to the
dismay of passersby.
His wife fled with
their two children.
Later, he said a former
girlfriend betrayed him.
Residents raised
money for his healing.
“It was not as
painful as I had thought,” he said.
Chief Herman Kibunja urged those
who are not circumcised to voluntarily
go for the cut to avoid embarrassment.
