Media personality Ciru Muriuki is unhappy with artistes who rely on clout to promote an upcoming project.

In a post on her Insta Stories, the media personality asked Kenyans to stop supporting the clout chasers.

"There are so many incredibly talented Kenyan artistes spanning different genres: Gengetone, hip hop, house and reggae," she said.

"So many, but a few people have set the tone for this industry. The tone being, screw talent, we will only rely on gimmicks."

She also blamed the general public for giving the clout chasers a place they don't deserve.

She was reacting to the recent story of Vera Sidika undergoing 'booty reduction surgery', which trended for the better part of last week only for her to release a song.

"Like now we have spent a week talking about somebody's booty only to realise all this was a gimmick to drum up publicity before releasing a (quite frankly, mediocre) song," she said.

She also talked about the Bahati family, who kept their fans worried for deliberately going silent only to release a song.

She told Kenyans to identify these clout chasers and stop promoting their little gimmicks.

"We need to stop enabling this nonsense. True talent speaks for itself. It doesn't need gimmicks," she said.

"When have you seen Sauti Sol playing stupid games on social media before releasing a project? Nyashinki, Nikita Kering or Wakadinali? We need to stop rewarding clout chasers."
