Oscar-award winning star Lupita Nyong'o is coming to Kenya for the ninth edition of the Africities Summit.

The summit will take place from May 17 to 21 in Kisumu.

The theme is: 'The role of intermediary cities in Africa in the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda and of the African Union's Agenda 2063”.

For the first time, the summit will have a goodwill ambassador—Lupita.

The summit is organised every three years and takes place over five days. It is organised in different regions in Africa.

It is said to be "the largest democratic gathering organised on the African continent".

The summit is a flagship event of the United Cities and Local Governments of Africa.

This year's edition has been organised in partnership with the national government, the Council of Governors and Kisumu county.

It will be held in an intermediary city first time.
