Betty Kyallo and her advocate boyfriend Nick Ndeda were not ready to publicise their relationship, but 'snitches' exposed it online.
Speaking to Jalang'o on YouTube, Ndeda said they intended to be private until the relationship was stable.
"Relationships take time to grow to a point where you are okay with the public, but Kenyans don't allow relationships to evolve through normal stages of the relationship," he said.
"It may work or not, so you need privacy to navigate preliminary stages."
He said they had restrained themselves and never wanted to go public.
"We would be seen here and there, which is fine. Like any other couple, you would do things together, go out shopping, lunch, dinner...," he said.
"But we never wanted to come out and say we are an item, it was never our intention."
Betty Kyallo shared photos of herself with Nick while enjoying some quality time at Nakuru National Park in June, confirming they were dating after they were exposed through blogger Edgar Obare's page.
He said they were the centre of attention since Betty Kyallo is a celebrity.
"When that happened, we didn't change how we interacted. Once the spotlight starts shining on you, it never stops. It did not stop for a long time. Every time we do everything, all eyes will be there," he said.
"I think Kenyans just get bored, something happens, they forget. At some point, we got the normalcy back."
The advocate spoke about his political ambitions.
"I wouldn't say I am passionate about politics, I am passionate about leadership and good governance. I have the Nick Ndeda Foundation but if you want to make an impactful and significant change, either you need a lot of money or power," he said.
"It is my intention to get into politics not because I want but if God blesses me with a lot of money, I will not need the politics. But for now, politics is good, use power to change people's lives."
