The Permanent Presidential Music Commission (PPMC) has lined up musicians from the Mt Kenya region to perform during this year's Mashujaa day in Kirinyaga county.

Ahead of the event, the commission called for auditions, which were held at the Kirinyaga CDF office in Kerugoya town last week.

Speaking to Word Is, gospel singer Grace Mwai, one of the selected participants, said being her first experience, she appreciates the groundwork done before the glamour of any event.

"From the preparations of stage presence, etiquette, it's just amazing. The highs, the lows are beautiful because we are all working towards a successful event."

PPMC director Don Otoyo said they endeavour to give a bigger platform to artistes from the region and its environs.

"This is to empower them and highlight what they have to offer in terms of music and dance. That is why we also produce music projects, which are usually released a few days before the big day."

The lineup includes Mugithi artistes Jose Gatutura, Kareh B, Samidoh, Man Njiru, Kim Ka Wambui, Jotham Gatindi, Kadeno Wa Jose, Kajei Salim, Sarafina Salim, Eddie Gathenge, DJ Faxto and Titi Solomon.

Kikuyu Benga musicians include JB Maina, Joyce wa Mamaa, Epha Maina, Kigia wa Esther, Wamiruri, Octavious, Kariuki Kiarutara, Kui Ng’ang’a, Musaimo and Mike Murimi.

Representing the Akorino fraternity are Allan Aaron, Chege Wa Willy, Martin Wa Janet, Grace Mukuhi, Hezeh Nd'ung’u, Martha Wa Mau, Sarah Kimunyi, Paul Mugunyi, Tito Wa Bethi, Watoro Wa Martha, Job Ayub and Sammy Nene.
