Judy Kibinge's short film to screen on AfriDocs

JUDY Kibinge’s short film, Coming of Age, will be among other award-winning African films to be screened this August on AfriDocs, a Sub-Saharan Africa broadcast on DStv’s ED channel and GOtv.

Produced in 2007, the 12-minute film tells a story of a girl, who comes of age telling of the quirky optimism that came with independence from colonialism, then the dark days as an adolescent under dictatorship, and then new promise of multi-party democracy.

“AfriDocs continues in its tradition of screening some of the top documentaries from across Africa and the globe with a month of award-winning films,”read a statement.

The movies set for broadcast have taken top honours at festivals such the Tribeca Film Festival, Film Festival Vues d’En Face, France and the Dutch Film Awards. They include DRC’s Weapon of War by Femke and Ilse van Velzen, Zimbabwe’s The Democrats (Camilla Nielsson), South Africa’s The Cessation (Lotte Manicom), Senegal’s Ladies Turn (Hélène Harder), Congo’s Papa Wemba, Eloko Pamba (Jimmy Glasberg) and Benin’s Angelique Kidjo, The Amazon by Pascal Signolet.
