The gospel fraternity led by Daddy Owen will unite to give a proper send-off to gospel singer Peter Kaberere who died on Sunday.

Owen told Word Is, "We will meet today. I'm trying to rally everyone to join us to give him a proper send-off." The Kazi Ya Msalaba hitmaker said: "I was called around midday and told he had been electrocuted by the machine used to wash cars at his car wash. He was rushed to Oasis Mission Hospital — he was still breathing but was later pronounced dead."

Owen added, "We went to confirm what really happened and looked at the machine to see if there were any naked wires and we did not find any. We don't understand what went wrong."

Owen joined family and friends in mourning the star who is famed for hit songs like Just Away, Natamani and Nisamehe.

"I was a groomsman at his wedding. I remember I was rocking a mohawk," Owen tweeted. "He is the first person I asked if I should sign for Safaricom Live. He gave me good advice."

Juliani posted on his Facebook page, "Until now I cannot come to terms. Heard the news yesterday, couldn't even go to your house or join others to see you at the morgue. Many know him as one of the pioneers of the urban gospel music. Others as a hustler, Kabs could get you anything you need in this world. My big Luo like TV he helped me get it in River Road. He was a chef, a musician, a pastor, fashionista literally he was everything and above. I knew him as a good man."

Senator Naisula Lesuuda tweeted, "@qaberere Only God knows best. Am at a loss, You were a true inspiration to many from the days of Word of Life to being a chef. #RIPKaberere."

News anchor Janet Mbugua ‏also tweeted, "The death of @qaberere reminds us how fleeting life is. Be with the ones you love and love the ones you're with #LifeLessons #RipKaberere."

Singer Joyce Omondi added, "Shaken by the passing of @qaberere. My heart goes out to his lovely wife @njeshwaKabbz. Sending you my love and prayers, sis... RIP Kaberere."

Secular artiste Jaguar also sent his message. He wrote, "Saddened by the passing of a colleague and friend, gospel artiste Peter Kaberere. God rest his soul in peace. Condolences to the family."
