Kenya hosts an abundance of tourist attractions from historical sites and beautiful landscapes. Malindi is home to two of these beautiful attractions. Let's travel to the Gedi ruins and Mambrui dunes.

Gedi ruins.

Tucked away deep in Malindi, this location is approximately 90 km from the town of Mombasa.

Gedi was a small town built entirely from rocks and stones, which was inhabited by the Swahili people of East Africa alongside the Indians, Arabs, and Galla people.

This historic town dates back to the 15th century. This area sits on 44 acres of land. The town was skillfully built, and its iconic feature is a double wall, consisting of an inner wall and an outer wall.

The inner wall separated the rich from the middle class and the outer wall separates the middle class from the peasants.

Today one can visit Gedi ruins and marvel at the iconic Great mosque, the pillar tomb, the house of the double court, and even the King's palace.

If you are passionate about history then this is the place for you. Marvel at the architecture from the water cooling systems to the air conditioning systems that were used in the past.

Mambrui dunes.

Tucked away in the town of Mambrui in Malindi, lies this astounding location. This location features sand dunes that have been carved by the wind creating stunning wavy patterns.

One can think they are in Dubai or the Sahara desert. One amazing thing is that these sand dunes connect to the ocean.

Make sure to visit in the early mornings or late evenings.

Mambrui Dunes is a great place to relax and unwind, and there are plenty of activities to keep visitors entertained. Some of the popular activities include swimming and sunbathing.

The midday sun can be scorching hot. Moreover, hire a local tour guide for a better experience. Carry sunscreen, comfortable and breathable shoes, and wear light clothing when visiting.
