The Kitui county government has warned contractors they risk being blacklisted for doing shoddy work on county projects, even as officials abetting the crimes were put on notice.
County executive for water and irrigation Peter Nkunda warned officers against colluding with contractors to alter bills of quantities for projects.
"It is the county administration's position that project bills of quantities must be adhered to the letter. Failure to adhere to the specified BQs leading to shoddy work will invite severe sanctions," Nkunda said.
The CEC said not only will government officers involved in any shady deals leading to substandard work be punished but also the the delinquent contractors will be blacklisted.
He spoke at Katse vocational training centre in Mumoni ward of Mwingi North on Friday during a public participation forum on Community Level Infrastructure Programme.
The simultaneous forums that took place in all the 40 wards of Kitui county where pro-poor fee support programme and sand dams initiative for the financial year 2023-2024 were also discussed.
Besides the water docket, Nkunda also oversees departments in the office of the governor where the Community Level Infrastructure Development Programme is domiciled.
The water executive at the same time said that Governor Julius Malombe's administration was committed to doing projects that would turn around the lives of Kitui people.
He said it was for that reason projects prioritised by community members during public participation forums will be implemented without alterations.
"We are listening to the people and all the projects that you have proposed and prioritised will be implemented without any changes," the CEC said.
He further assured that the projects will be allocated funds as prioritised and diversion of the monies to other non-priority programmes will not happen.
Nkunda further reassured Kitui residents that Governor Malombe's administration was keen on deliberate, equitable and people-centred service delivery that will improve the residents' quality of life.
"Governor Dr Julius Malombe's administration is keen to implement sustainable development across the county in line with his 16-sector agenda dubbed The Kitui Promise," he added.
He also underscored the importance of public participation in the actualisation of inclusive public services.
"These public participation forums are happening in all the 40 wards and besides being a civic process, they offer wananchi invaluable opportunities to give their development priorities and make their preferences known," he said.
Mumoni MCA Titus Kasinga praised the Kitui county administration under under Governor Malombe for its people-centred projects and services.
Kasinga told his electorate that he will never allow any contractor to violate or water down bills of quantities provided for projects by the technical experts.
