The funeral fundraiser for TikToker Brian Chira has exceeded Sh5 million within just 48 hours of its launch.
Chira's close friend and content creator, Baba Talisha, spearheaded the fundraising efforts.
With the support of his online community and fans, funds were swiftly mobilized to ensure Chira receives a dignified send-off.
As of Thursday, the fundraiser had amassed Sh1.2 million.
Baba Talisha revealed that Chira's grandmother had a special request for him to be buried in a graduation gown.
He also added that the burial will be on March 26 and the funeral will take place in Githunguri where Chira's grandmother lives.
"The body viewing will happen at Kenyatta Funeral Home and not at the grandmother's home in line with the Kikuyu tradition," Baba Talisha said.
Chira died in a road accident at around 3 am on Saturday, March 16, 2024, with reports of his demise spreading on social media on Saturday afternoon.
A police team is chasing after the truck that hit and fatally injured the well-known Kenyan Tiktoker.
According to police, the accident occurred on the Ndenderu-Ruaka Road in Kiambu County.
The white speeding lorry that struck the influential social media personality did not stop at the scene.
Authorities intend to perform an autopsy on the body as part of the investigation into the accident before proceeding with further steps in the case.
They will also visit places Chira had been before the accident happened.
Police are also investigating claims Chira may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident in the Gacharage area.
Kiambaa sub-county police commander Pius Mwanthi said they are yet to find the lorry that is said to have hit Chira.
“The accident happened in the night and for now efforts are ongoing to get the vehicle behind the same. No arrest has been made so far,” he said.
He added that a team will review surveillance cameras near the scene and along the road as part of efforts to identify the canter.
“The driver behind this should also come forward and report the matter to help in the probe,” he said.
