UDA MCAs from Kiambu have demanded changes in the outfit’s leadership in the county assembly.
Addressing the media, the Ward Reps claimed the party’s leadership at the assembly has been preventing them from oversighting the executive effectively.
“We do not have any malice in what we are demanding. There is no other shortcut but changing the leadership of the majority party in the assembly,” Nominated MCA Wanjiku Muturi stated.
She noted that the MCAs petitioned the party last week to make the changes at the assembly.
“We came physically to the headquarters to confirm that we are the ones who appended the signatures,” she added.
Gatang’ora MCA Dan Gitau Kuria claimed the party leadership has been compromised.
“When you raise any concern about the executive, it is construed to mean you are waging a war with the governor,” Gitau stated.
At the centre of the storm are Majority Leader Godfrey Muceke and Majority Whip Munga Mbuiyu.
UDA director for membership, Sam Mwangi, assured the MCAs that their grievances have been noted by national officials.
“The secretary general has this information and he will pass it to the President,” Mwangi told the ward reps.
In June, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua came to the rescue of Wamatangi after MCAs issued impeachment threats.
Gachagua moved to quell the leadership crisis that had seen Wamatangi face off with MPs and MCAs.
In a meeting with all elected MPs from the county save for Githunguri Constituency legislator Gathoni Wamuchomba and county Woman Representative Anne Wamuratha who was outside the country, Gachagua instructed the leaders to work together for the social-economic development of the devolved unit.
On August 11, MCAs ousted Mucheke and replaced him with Limuru East member Paul Macharia.
Limuru East MCA has been at the forefront cautioning MCAs from being compromised by anyone.
