Decluttering your space is a significant effort whether you're moving or just wanting to make your life simpler.

When you're drained, breaking down the task into smaller, more manageable steps is the best strategy.

Create a "declutter your home checklist" to identify areas that need the most attention.

Inevitably how much time you have will significantly impact the size of the place you will be able to declutter and organise.

Start with one room or space at a time. For example, you can start with your bedroom and before beginning, have containers each with a defined purpose to sort items easily that is fix, mend, donate, put away, trash, and recycle.

Decluttering helps in that there is less to clean, less stress, and keeps your space organised.

Below are steps on how you can declutter your space/home.

Use the 12-12-12 challenge

Identify 12 items that you need to donate, 12 that you need to throw away, and 12 that need to be put away.

Create a list

This helps you have a map out of where you need to start, why, and also check out the areas you have already worked on.

Create a timeline

If you don't have a lot of decluttering to do, you might be able to do it in a single day or over the course of a weekend.

You can also create a decluttering timeline like maybe a week, or two. Set a realistic and attainable timeline and goals to avoid feeling overwhelmed as you declutter your space.

Determine how long it will take to clean up each of the spots that you need.

Ask for help

If decluttering is new to you, setting the goal to organise your space or home may be very challenging.

Since your friends won't have the same attachment to your items, this will be helpful in deciding which items you have to let go of and those that you need to keep.

Declutter the storage areas first

This will create room and space for storing items as you declutter the other spaces. It will also help with not stashing away things just because you want to get rid of them.
