How to deal with cockroach infestation in your fridge

Cockroaches like warm, moist hiding spaces, therefore your fan, at the bottom are the major hiding spot.

Even though they do not like cold temperatures, they can go in occasionally to feed on your food.

They can get inside your fridge through gaps between the fridge door, cracks, and any opening underside.

Step 1: Identify the problem

First, you need to perform a visual inspection of your fridge and the surrounding areas.

Pull the refrigerator out from against the wall, as the underneath is the most common hiding spot.

Step 2: Clean the area

Remove all food and drinks from your fridge.

Then, as you begin cleaning your fridge’s space, keep an eye out for any egg cases.

Their presence will suggest you have a pretty serious cockroach infestation.

Sweep the area, clean the motor of your refrigerator, and empty the condensed water pan underneath the refrigerator.

Put them in the bin and take them outside immediately.

Step 3: Seal open parts.

Inspect the area around your refrigerator and the entire house.

Seal any cracks larger than an ⅛ inch with the proper caulking OR buy a new rubber seal.

If there are any openings or gaps around electrical outlets, apply caulk to these areas as well. A silicon-based caulk will do.

Step 4: Disinfect

Purchase a disinfectant cleaning agent that contains bleach. Spray the inside of the microwave thoroughly, and allow the agent to sit in the microwave for about five to 10 minutes.

Step 5: Get an anti-roach or insect-killing solution.

Spray the solution heavily into the fridge. Allow the solution to sit for about an hour, outside your house, or keep your windows open.

You can set traps for the cockroaches, since as they run away from the fridge, they may go to new hiding spots.

Step 6: Sweep

Wipe off the cockroaches that appear, then spray the fridge with a cleaning solution and let it sit for 1 hour.

Step 7: Traps

Clean it then place a cup of dry wine for a day. Cockroaches will die if they drink this.

Step 8: Smell removal

After that, place lemon in the fridge in the affected areas and inside the fridge.

The smell of lemons repels cockroaches to a great extent, clean with lemon water. Dry it and put it back in the house.

Studies have shown that both E. coli and Salmonella can survive inside the microwave and fridge, so it's important to keep them clean always.

To remove the smell in your microwave and fridge, baking soda is a really good ingredient.

Just place an open bowl of baking soda in the fridge or microwave and let it sit there for 24 to 72 hrs. Easy as that.
