November has set in with the rains that have at least reduced the hot sun and dust that has been there for a while.

We cannot forget that the rainy and cold season goes hand in hand with colds and flu.

Running noses, coughs, sneezes, sore throats, and sneezing could be the order of the day now that we have transitioned to the cold season.

It is vital to stay healthy and avoid these conditions in the following ways:

1. Dressing warmly

This season calls for layering up. The heavier and warmer the clothes the better for you.

You would rather sweat in multiple clothing than allow cold into your body.

Covering sensitive parts of your body like the chest and feet that the cold could pass through is important.

2. Take warm fluids

This is not the time to have ice cream and cold milkshakes, that season is already behind us.

Avoiding these at all costs is very essential for staying flu-free.

Regular intake of warm fluids like milk, tea, coffee or water will help in maintaining warmth in your body.

3. Regular exercising

Short exercises like brisk walking, skipping ropes, jogging and climbing up the stairs will warm up your body.

Fitness and an active body are key to keeping the cold at bay.

4. Avoid being rained on

We can be caught off guard now that it can rain at any time of the day or night.

This is specific to those who use public transport to move around.

Good preparation involves carrying umbrellas, and raincoats, wearing boots or even waterproof jackets will go a long way.

Waiting for the rain to reduce so that you can walk to the bus stage is better than running and getting wet in the rain.

Having wet clothes on could bring about a cold/flu.

5. Eating and drinking foods rich in nutrients

Maintaining a balanced diet by eating foods that enrich our bodies with vitamins and disease-fighting properties is key.

Eating more fruits and vegetables will help in boosting your immune system.

In addition to this, occasionally taking drinks such as lemon, ginger and honey to boost the body during this cold period could help in eliminating the flu.
