Soldier killed in El Adde attack laid to rest in Kitui

A soldier killed during the Shabaab attack on KDF’s camp in El Adde, Somalia, in January, was buried yesterday in Kitui county.There was a gun salute for Joshua Munyoki, 24, at his Kwangindu village home.Governor Julius Malombe, Kitui Central MP Makali Mulu and former deputy police commissioner Japeth Mwania attended the burial.

The slain soldier was buried yesterday at Kwa-ngundu village in the outskirts of Kitui town.

There was a gun salute for Joshua Munyoki, 24, at his Kwangindu village home.

Governor Julius Malombe, Kitui Central MP Makali Mulu and former deputy police commissioner Japeth Mwania attended the burial.

The KDF team was led by major Peter Njenga.

Leaders eulogised Munyoki as a hero who died defending his country.

Malombe said the killings have only invigorated the country and given KDF more motivation to defeat al Shabaab.

He said the lives should not be lost in vain.

“Our soldiers should remain in Somalia and only live once they have completely eliminated al Shabaab and made sure our borders are fully secure,” the governor said.

Malombe said the government should equip officers to defeat terrorists.

He said it is tragic al Shabaab killed students during a terrorist attack at the Garissa University College.

Mulu said all “sons and daughters of Kenya” who died in the line of duty should be declared national heroes and heroines.
