Green tea is a popular beverage known refreshing taste and is mostly taken as a supplement drink.

Green tea originated in China but its production and manufacture has since then spread to other countries outside Asia.

Green tea comes from unoxidised leaves of the Camellia sinensis bush. It is one of the least processed types of tea.

It is more of a herbal drink as it provides numerous health benefits such as alleviating anxiety and stress, reducing high blood pressure and even lowers cholesterol.

Green tea was once popular locally due to its perceived ability to help in weight loss.

Various research papers indicate that drinking between 2 and 3 cups of hot green tea throughout the day can be sufficient for supplementing weight loss.

Nutritionists advice that green tea should be taken one hour after eating as taking it on empty stomach could lead to acidity due to its detoxifying nutrients.

Making a perfect cup of green tea requires few simple steps and attention to detail.

Ingredients

  • Green tea bags
  • 2 cups of water
  • Honey to taste
  • Lemon

Step 1

Arrange your ingredients: Set up your green tea bags; they are easily available at food stores.

Step 2

Boil water for about five minutes then let it cool for a few minutes before brewing.

Step 3

Steep the tea: Place the green tea bags into the tea pot. Add the hot water over and cover completely.

Let the tea steep for about three minutes for a light flavour or up to five minutes for a stronger taste.

Steeping too long can result in a bitter taste, so monitor the steeping time carefully.

Step 4

Strain and serve: Once the tea has steeped to your desired preference, remove the tea bags using a strainer. Pour the tea into cups and serve immediately.

Step 5

Green tea can be served plain or with a touch of honey or lemon for added nutrition.

Honey is recommended as it is a healthy alternative to sugar. It makes your green tea less bitter.

Further, the antioxidants in green tea combine with the abundant vitamins and minerals in honey making it a super healthy drink.
