Ingredients

  • 2 ¼  tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 2 ¼ cups warm water
  • ¼  cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 5 ½ – 6 ½  cups bread flour
  • Butter for topping (optional)

Preparation

Step 1

In a large bowl dissolve the yeast in the warm water with a pinch of sugar. When the yeast is bubbly and foamy, add the sugar, salt, oil, and 4 cups flour, and then mix until smooth.

Step 2

Add remaining flour, ½ cup at a time, as you need to form a soft, smooth dough. Ensure that the dough sticks to your finger slightly when touched.

Step 3

Knead your dough on a flat surface for for 5-7 minutes, until smooth, then roll it into a ball.

Step 4

Oil another bowl then places the kneaded dough in the bowl. Coat all sides of the dough with oil then cover with plastic wrap and set aside for an hour.

Step 5

When the dough has risen, punch it down gently and divide it in half.

Step 6

Roll each half of the dough to form a cylinder that is approximately 8 inches in thickness, then repeat with the remaining dough.

Step 7

Place the dough, onto lightly greased bread pans and let it rise for another hour.

Step 8

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees then bake for 30-35 minutes or until the loaves are golden brown.

Cool then enjoy with your favorite butter.
