Masala Omelette

A different way of spicing up those eggs is making that spicy masala omelette.

With a combination of ground spices, chillies and eggs, your perfect omelette just works with a cold glass of juice or a hot chocolate or coffee.

This dish whose origin is from Persia dates back to 1600.

There are actually four types of omelette; American style, French style, Soufflé and Frittata.

Frittata Omelette

With a Frittata, this Italian dish involves additional ingredients such as meats, cheeses or vegetables. The word Frittata translates to “Fried”.

A Soufflé is fluffy and soft, with a melted cheese center.

The American omelette is slightly thicker with heavy fillings while the French omelette is thinner and slightly undercooked.

  Ingredients

  • 3 Eggs
  • 2 Small onion finely chopped
  • 1 small tomato, chopped (optional)
  • 1 Green pepper or chilli, finely chopped
  • ½ tsp. Chilli powder
  • Salt
  • Vegetable oil
  • Black pepper, (optional)
  • Ketchup
  • Lemon

 

Preparation

Step 1

In a bowl, mix onions, tomatoes, green pepper, chilli powder, black pepper and salt.

Step 2

Over medium heat put 2 tbsp. of vegetable oil in a pan

Step 3

Crack the eggs in the bowl with the mixture and whisk the ingredients

Step 4

Pour the mixture in the pan and heat for one minute on each side until the sides turn golden then do the same on the other side.

Step 4

Remove from the pan and squeeze a little lemon juice on one side of the omelette.

Enjoy with a cold passion juice or with tea or Ugali.
