Having breakfast can prove to be a boring task, especially if your daily options revolve around tea or coffee with a wheat accompaniment.

Breakfast is the most essential meal of the day as it replenishes your supply of glucose to boost your metabolism, energy levels and alertness while providing other essential nutrients required for good health after your overnight fast.

Cereals are a good way of breaking the breakfast monotony and getting a kick start for the day.

On top of that, the preparation time takes less than five minutes and you can creatively play around with your bowl, adding preferred fruits and toppings.

Below is a simple vegetarian-friendly way to have your cereals in the morning.

Ingredients

- cornflakes

- choco shells

- half an apple

- chia seeds

- almond milk

Chia (ancient Mayan word for strength) seeds include large amounts of fibre and heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids, high-quality proteins, antioxidants and essential minerals.

Some of their benefits include; reducing body inflammation, improve digestive health, helps boost body metabolism, being good for skin and ageing and help in weight loss and building muscles.

Another benefit of the meal is the folic acid found in corn flakes helps produce new blood cells and prevents birth defects.

They also contain thiamine content that boosts up carbohydrate metabolism and cognitive functioning.

Method

On a chopping board, cut and dice a washed green apple into small pieces and set them aside.

Add your desired amount of cornflakes, add choco shells as well for a contrast in colour and taste as well in a bowl, then slowly add your almond, soy or cashew milk and stir gently for a few seconds.

Add the diced apples, then sprinkle chia seeds on top of the meal.

You can add a little bit of sugar to taste, although I’d advise against it as the apples and the choco shells already have a sweet taste, and we’re trying to minimize the calorie intake.

Enjoy and slay your day.
