2021 was the year when the world was transitioning from all levels of lockdowns brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Fashion wise, most people opted for comfort as a way to continue with the cosiness of indoor clothes.

However, other fashionistas could not wait to unveil seriously bold and stylish designs once places to go were open and travel restrictions lifted.

These were the trends we saw flooding our Instagram feeds, the ones we bought in multiples and the pieces we’re most likely to continue wearing long into 2022.

 1.chunky combat boot

The Dr, Mardens and other lug-soled boots first became a trend in 2019 but were very popular this year.

They became mainstream in 2021 since they are considered very stylish and functional shoes.

Combat boots were all over social media as people, both men and women rocked them differently.

Some with jean trousers or shorts while others rocked them with dresses and sweatpants.

Lug-soled boots are very versatile and can be dressed up or down. This is a style that will definitely transition to 2022.

 2.Baguette style bags

2021 fashion was filled with the ‘90s-inspired styles of bags. From totes to baguettes. The Fendi baguette, Prada’s nylon shoulder bags are still very popular since 2019.

From celebrities to social media influencers these types of bags have been worn in various ways.

They can be worn with feminine, casual, streetwear, or dressy outfits.

Plus, its flat design and short handle make it a good hands-free option—great for commuting because all your belongings will be close to your body.

 3.Corset tops

Another trend that was popular this year was the corset top.

The 2021 version of the trend, which we’ve seen make its way back into the zeitgeist a few times over the past five or so years, was perhaps the best one yet and featured more subtle nods to corsetry, like seaming down the bodice, square necklines and V-shape hems. Alas, we don’t see this trend making it big in 2022. As is the case for actual lingerie corsets, it’s difficult to find a mass-produced corset top that fits your exact body type well enough to look truly fabulous, and we’re just not willing to put in all the work to find one.

 4.The Tailored Trouser

The tailored trousers basically become the new jeans in the fashion world, versatile enough to be worn with everything from sweatshirts to cutout tops.

Fashionistas this year explored both the bold and neutral coloured.

Once you get the perfect pair, these high-waisted pants fit like a trouser but feel like a sweat pant.

With a universally flattering cut that hits exactly the right spot on your waist, they pair perfectly with a tucked-in tee or chunky sweater.

 5.Leather blazers

Everyone loves a classic leather jacket, especially  with a good pair of jeans or a body-hugging dress.

However, leather blazers have become extra popular this year. They are a good stylish switch-up that started from models on the runway.

Leather blazers are so '90s and now people are enjoying layering them over sweaters.

Brown and black are more common leather blazers currently.

6. Mesh dresses

Mesh is back.

The staple material has made its way back into both our closets and our Instagram feeds.

It was first popularised in the ‘90s, and was initially associated with edgy, cool-girls.

In 2021, the material made its way back with designers exploring them using prints ranging from pastel abstracts to breathtaking landscapes.

Though mostly loved during the warmer months, mesh pieces can stay in your closet year-round.

Its loved for its versatility, the lightweight fabric calls for any occassion.

This transitional piece can be both layered or worn alone, regardless, it's guaranteed to stand out.

7. Pleated skirts

Pleated skirts have always been a consistent favorite in our wardrobes, but they are now becoming even more popular.

When it comes to these skirts, choosing the correct length to flatter your height (a common mistake) and style it correctly is what matters.

Pleated skirts are a fit for every single season.

Initially, pleated skirts felt very schoolcore, however, they've transformed into so much more.

They can be worn with sneakers and a T-shirt for a somewhat sporty vibe.

With a puff-sleeved top and boots, Pleated skirts can work for a night out.

They always add an element of fun, while at the same time being the happy medium between low effort and slightly dressed up.

 8.Silk dresses

Silk slip dresses were hot in 2021.

This style-dresses were beloved in the ‘90s.

They have been paired with everything from sneakers by day and strappy-heeled sandals by night.

When the slip dress came back to the streets in 2018, it was considered mainly for the slim fitted ladies.

However, now there is every style for every body type.
