Newly appointed Vihiga Bullets coach Andrew Ongwae is targeting a top-10 finish in the National Super League.
Ongwae joined the club a week ago, taking over from George Owoko — who parted ways with the former FKF Premier League side. Owoko later joined Shabana where he will be Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo’s assistant.
Ongwae said: “Since we are not out of the relegation zone, our target is a mid-table finish. My ultimate aim is to guide the club back to the Premier League next season.”
Ongwae, a CAF ‘B’ certified coach said joining Bullets was a huge step in his career. He had served as an assistant coach at Shabana, Gusii, Darajani Gogo and Zoo Youth.
“This is a step in the right direction in my career path. I got my CAF ‘B’ certificate last year it’s high time I joined a team as a head coach,” noted the former defender.
In his first game last Sunday, Vihiga Bullets edged bottom-of-the-table Silibwet Leons 1-0 to move from 19th to 15th on the log.
“We are playing Rainbow and Kibera Black Stars in our next two matches. We want to win the two games so that we move to the top 10 on the log,” noted Ongwae.
On Thursday, Vihiga Bullets lost 4-0 to Tusker in a friendly match. “It was a good game and I think we achieved what we wanted. In the first half, although we conceded two goals, Tusker scored through a penalty and direct from a corner,” Ongwae said.
They are planning another friendly match against a lower tier side before they embark on preparations for next weekend’s clash with Rainbow.
