Interior CS Fred Matiang'i on Wednesday announced that Kasarani police boss Peter Mwanzo has been transferred to Nakuru to replace Kiraguri as part of efforts to address rising insecurity.
Mwanzo was promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police and immediately transferred to Nakuru and named the county police commander, Matiang’i said.
He made the revelations during a meeting with local leaders over insecurity that has been linked to a gang named 'Confirm' gang.
He was accompanied by Inspector General of police Hilary Mutyambai, DCI George Kinoti and General Service Unit commandant Douglas Kanja. They also condoled with families and residents of victims of the gang.
This comes in the wake of public outrage over rising insecurity after the shocking murders of three women.
The police suspect the three were raped before being killed in Mawanga estate in Bahati by people thought to be members of the dreaded 'Confirm gang'.
A security operation ordered in the area led to the arrest of 128 people suspected to be members of the gang.
Police seized 436 mobile phones, 40 laptops, 61 knives, six swords, 15 pangas, 3,367 rolls of bangs, more than one kilogramme of unprocessed bhang and sachets of heroin.
They also confiscated Army and National Youth Service uniforms, toy guns and 10 unclaimed motorbikes suspected to have been used by the gang for their criminal activities.
So far two lawmakers have recorded statements with the DCI in Nakuru.
The MPs David Gikaria (Nakuru Town East) and Samuel Arama (Nakuru Town West) – were together with Bahati’s Kimani Ngunjiri were grilled over the issue in the ongoing probe.
