The La Griglia Restaurant recently played host to Casino Malindi Fashion Show 2015. Beautiful models rocked the catwalk sporting stunning local and international designs from top designers based in Nairobi and Malindi.

Fourteen home-grown fashion designers including AfroStreet Kollektions(Yvonne Odhiambo), Simbaress Fashion (Diana Nekoye), Vaishali Morjaria, Mia Mara Creations (Lorna Abwonji), Wazawazi (Chebet Mutai), Afrostreet by Melanie, Sang Sang Fashions, House of Walove, Lisa Christoffersen, Rialto Fashions all acknowledged the importance of the event to celebrate femininity. Other design brands featured at the event included Get Hooked, Chefammel, Lukagwa Jewellers and Oceano Pearls.

“This event is primarily a showcase for both Kenyan and international designers creating couture and accessories, all with some relic of Africa. It is an occasion to review how far women have come in their struggle for equality, peace and development. It is also an opportunity to unite, network and mobilize for meaningful change,” said Daniela Cellini, event organizer and proprietor. Vaishali Morjaria stole the show with her collection dubbed “Angels in Daughters” showcasing an all-female collection of dresses. Her fabric of choice included net, silk, lace and chiffon integrating pink, purple and white colours with hand-embroidered patterns.

Coinciding with the International Women’s Day, the event aimed at celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of all women in the past, present and future.

In addition to being a unique opportunity for talented fashion designers, the event attracted the participation of today’s most stunning Kenyan runway models by Mochez Modelstunacheza, managed by Dorothy Oliech.

“This is a positive event for Malindi, creating opportunities for stylists, models and others in the fashion industry to mingle and network. The event has responded to its real purpose in linking the cultural event to the celebration of the woman. I think that today, all human beings should recognise the woman, so the ones who had the idea of choosing a day to celebrate the woman were not wrong,’’ said Eve Chege, a fashion show guest and blogger.

Casino Malindi Fashion Show is a signature event in the Coast that is committed to setting the standard in fashion, bringing together the most influential designers paired with elite Kenyan models on one runway.
