Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga has pledged to ensure Tom Mboya University College in Homa Bay is awarded a charter if he wins the presidency in next month's polls.

He said the charter will enable the university to operate autonomously and expand its academic programmes.

Raila spoke on Sunday during a campaign rally at Homa Bay Stadium.

He said Azimio administration will prioritise education and guarantee free education from primary all the way to college and university.

“As one of the pillars in my manifesto, education will be free from primary to secondary and tertiary levels to help us end ignorance, which is one of the four enemies we are fighting against," Raila said.

He said this will help in offering equal opportunities to every child regardless of their background and enable them to get meaningful jobs.

“When I clinch power, I promise to hasten the process of making Tom Mboya University College a chartered institution,” Raila said.

The former Prime Minister also promised to establish one factory per county to create job opportunities for students who graduate from institutions of higher learning.

He urged residents to turn out 100 per cent and vote for him as well as ODM candidates for all elective positions in the county.

Raila also drummed up support for Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga who is seeking to be the next governor in the county.

He said Wanga will transform the county if given that mandate.

Wanga is facing stiff competition from former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero and the endorsement by the ODM party leader was seen as a major boost.

The former PM was accompanied by Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth, MPs Wanga, John Mbadi, Millie Odhiambo, Peter Kaluma, Junet Mohamed, Senator Moses Kajwang and Governor Cyprian Awiti.
