ODM officials in Siaya do not know whether party primaries will take place or not in the county.

The ODM National Elections Board had scheduled Wednesday as the day for nominations in Siaya.

ODM’s Siaya branch chairperson Oloo Okanda told the Star he was worried because the party was yet to update him about the nominations.

“When I asked the party about the same, I was told to wait. I'm concerned and worried. For now, there is nothing I know that I can relay to the media,” he said.

Governor aspirant George Mbeya on Sunday departed for Nairobi with hopes that ODM would respond to his questions.

“I'm going to Nairobi to seek answers because, it seems, no one wants to invite me,” he said in Siaya town.

Mbeya said he has spent his resources on campaigns and paid nomination fees.

He claimed Senator James Orengo is camping at Orange House in Nairobi, waiting for a direct ticket instead of campaigning.

“Those who are seeking direct tickets have not been campaigning,” he said.

He said the party should allow people to make independent decisions on the ballot.

A source who is privy to the ongoings in Orengo’s camp told the Star that the aspirant has been in Nairobi and is about to touch down in Siaya with the nomination certificate.

“The ODM certificate for Siaya governor race has been issued,” the source said.

In the counties where ODM had set dates for nominations, the exercise did not go on for parliamentary, governorship and senatorial seats. Aspirants were summoned for consensus building.

Women aspirants have also raised concerns over their security.

“Let the ODM party and the county commissioner and his team beef up security and provide special security to women aspirants,” North Alego MCA aspirant Rosemary Ogutu.
