Deputy President William Ruto's point man in Kabuchai, Bungoma county, Evans Kakai has ditched UDA and rejoined Jubilee.

Jubilee is in Azimio la Umoja, whose presidential candidate is Raila Odinga.

Kakai vied in the Kabuchai constituency by-election last year on the UDA ticket following the death of MP James Lusweti.

He was defeated by Majimbo Kalasinga, who vied on the Ford Kenya ticket.

Kakai has been a close ally of Ruto and his move is likely to complicate issues for the DP, considering that getting somebody to drive his agenda in the cosmopolitan region is not easy at the moment.

"I have consulted my soul and seen there is light in Jubilee rather than UDA and that is why I have gone back to where my heart belongs," he said.

Kakai said Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang'ula and ANC's Musalia Mudavadi joining forces with Ruto complicated the political matrix for him.

"It will be difficult for me to survive in UDA following the political pact that formed Kenya Kwanza Alliance. I will have a better political footing in Azimio where Jubilee Party is a member," the politician said.

UDA has fronted Nairobi-based businessman Zachariah Baraza for the Bungoma governor seat.

In January, Baraza said he decided to join UDA because it is the only party with grassroots support and would produce the next president in August.

He said after carrying out research for over six months, he settled on UDA as the party that county voters identify with.

Baraza, who also a human rights activist, said he has held consultative meetings with different groups in the county and has arrived at a party that is popular and will propel him to power in August.

"I have chosen UDA as the main vehicle that I will use as I seek to be the third governor of Bungoma," he said.
