DCI detectives attached to Mlolongo police station are investigating the murder of a boda boda operator.

Evans Otoigo, 26, was allegedly killed by colleagues in Githunguri, Machakos county, on Saturday.

A detective privy to the investigations said Otoigo died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Athi River.

His body was taken to Kenyatta University Funeral Home for postmortem.

The incident was reported by Dennis Ogega Ayako at Muungano police station.

He told police that he was returning home with four friends at around 11.30pm on May 27, when they met two motorcycle riders, each with two pillion passengers.

He said an argument arose from a brief conversation and those on the boda bodas attacked them with a panga.

During the commotion some of his friends escaped but Otoigo and himself were cornered. Ayako said he lost consciousness.

The detective said according to Ayako, when he regained consciousness he was bleeding from an open wound in the head.

He could not recall how long he was unconscious.

“Ayako said he sought help from his neighbours who rushed both of them to Rosary Reihna Hospital. He was treated but Otoigo died while undergoing treatment,” he told the Star on Tuesday.

The source said Otoigo had multiple head injuries and blood was oozing from the mouth and ears.

Security agencies in the area said there is animosity between two communities doing boda boda business.

Mlolongo Division assistant county commissioner Dennis Ongaga on Monday held a baraza to diffuse the tension.

“The murder is reported to have brought ethnic anxiety between two communities,” Ongaga told the Star on Tuesday.

Ongaga said the baraza was attended by more than 1,000 people who included residents, matatu operators, business community, boda boda operators and the clergy.
