MPs Junet Mohamed, Babu Owino and John Mbadi were questioned on Tuesday by DCI over the stoning of the chopper carrying Raila Odinga.

The three told detectives they believe the attack was planned, not spontaneous. Wads of Sh50 notes were collected at the scene as evidence.

The attack occurred on Friday last week in Uasin Gishu. The wind shield was broken and the pilot said he almost lost control.

Junet (Suna East), Mbadi (Suba South) and Babu (Embakasi East) recorded statements as witnesses to the incident after the funeral of politician Jackson Kibor.

They had been summoned by DCI head of investigations John Gachomo who said their statements will help in the probe.

“We expect an expeditious conclusion to this matter," Junet said.

The three had driven together to DCI headquarters and departed together.

Junet said he gave police information he hopes will be useful in their investigations.

“No political zoning in our country,” he said.

Meantime, Soy MP Caleb Kositany and Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi presented themselves at the Rift Valley regional DCI headquarters in Nakuru over their alleged role in the incident.

They have denied any wrongdoing and condemned the attack.

Their mobile phones were taken away by police as part of the probe.

The DCI, in a statement Saturday, said investigations into the incident suggested the two were involved.

The DCI probe file will be sent to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions with recommendations to charge some leaders.

Section 20 of the Penal Code says when an offence is committed, some persons are deemed to have taken part, be guilty and may actually be charged with commission.

They include: Every person who actually commits the act or makes the omission that constitutes the offence.

Also, every person who does or omits to do anything for the purpose of enabling or aiding another person to commit the offence and every person who aids or abets another in committing the offence.

Also, any person who counsels or procures any other person to commit the offence is a principal offender.

Interior CS Fred Matiang'i on Tuesday termed the stoning a premeditated attack. He appeared before the National Assembly's committee on National Security and Justice.

He said the evidence gathered include large wads of Sh50 notes.

"Bribery of voters and mobilisation of rented crowds are the main security challenges linked to the general election that the National Police Service is currently facing," Matiang'i said.

Seventeen suspects are in custody over the incident.

Police were allowed to hold them for seven days to complete their investigations.

They could face charges of attempted murder, malicious damage to property, incitement to violence and disturbing the peace.

Raila had just visited Jackson Kibor's home and was departing after the burial ceremony when the attack on his airborne chopper occurred.
