Kenya Pipeline Company Limited will build and equip three classrooms and an ablution block at Emali Early Childhood Centre in Kibwezi West, Makueni.

In a letter dated December 10 and signed by Bernice Lemedeket, the managing director, the board has approved to fund the Sh5 million project as a corporate social responsibility.

"The multi-year project will be phased into two financial years. Sh2.5 million will be paid in the 2021-22 financial year, the balance will be cleared in the 2022-23 financial year,” the letter read.

The intervention will provide a strong foundation for quality education for CBC learners.

The company now wants the school management to source a duly registered and certified contractor who will undertake the project.

The approval of the fund was okayed following one of the proposals from Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jnr requesting funds for the construction of Emali ECD model centre and other projects within Kibwezi West.

He said his proposal targeted street children and several children's homes in Emali.

"Emali is one of the markets within the Mombasa-Nairobi highway with the highest number of street children. This project will provide enough space for their learning," Mutula Jnr said.

The legislator has urged the company to consider another proposal to sink boreholes in areas that were affected by oil spill at Kiboko-Kibwezi West and River Thange in Kibwezi East, Makueni.

Mutula believes that after construction, the county government should use it to construct more ECDC centres in the county.
