  • Nobody can survive without food and water.
  • With the current unpredictable rain patterns, should a dry spell occasion major rivers to dry up, how will our nation survive without water and food?
The degraded Mau Forest.

For future prosperity and to mitigate the effects of drought, Kenya seriously needs to enhance conservation efforts to prevent the deterioration of its water towers.

One of the most urgent factors to consider for yielding any positive impacts on effective conservation is a self-reliance approach. Water towers are key to the survival of humanity. Water is needed for everything – drinking, cooking, etc – and for industrial use.

If enough action is not sustained at the earliest moment for conservation and protection, then our nation, and even the countries bordering us, faces the grim reality of a food crisis. The resultant effects would be alarming food shortages and poor agricultural growth. This would be a disaster for the survival of humanity. Nobody can survive without food and water.

As the years go by not only in Kenya but many countries in Africa, population increase has become a challenging issue. Population increase puts more pressure on land to accommodate new human settlements.

This leads to the scenario of cutting down more trees which has negative effects on our biodiversity. How will our country sustain its water towers for future generations when human activity is known to be one of the factors leading to multiple challenges of degradation of biodiversity?

Kenya and many other countries are all on the same boat facing the challenges of high cost of living, increased inflation and soaring food prices. With the current unpredictable rain patterns in the Horn of Africa should a dry spell occasion major rivers to dry up, how will our nation survive without water and food?

This would indeed be a very challenging issue. Globally with the current climate change crisis, many regions are facing drought and famine due to unpredictable rain patterns.

Kenya seriously needs to find ways to address this challenge of safeguarding its water towers from destruction to prevent a scarcity of water should a dry spell occasion. Prevention is better than cure.
