Exams are one of the most unavoidable phases of life.

Knowledge should not be measured through academic prosperity or failure.

Inevitably, some students perform better than others.

On Monday, the 2021 KCPE exam results were released and despite it being a drop from 2020, the students did their best.

They deserve all the goodwill messages.

The education system has had some setbacks ever since the pandemic.

The important part is not the examination but how they manage their results especially if they never got what they had hoped for.

During exams, students tend to be under pressure because they know a lot is expected from them, especially from their parents.

Negative or lower results at the primary level make students think they are failures in life and not worthy of making another step.

Learners work extra hard not to disappoint their parents with poor performance.

Failure to reach their goals, they end up depressed, anxious and some think of suicide.

It's normal for every parent or guardian to be disappointed if their child has not performed as expected.

However, let's not underestimate their potential and strength. They might just excel in their next level.

Parents should remind their children that posting poor marks or grades is not the end of the world.

They should avoid comparing their children to their friends because that affects their self-esteem.

Instead, they should be proud of them.

Whatever mark your child achieved does not define the success of their entire time in school because there are times they made you proud.

Take time to remind them about their success not only in academics but also in other activities and celebrate all of the hard work they have put in to complete school.

Being proud of your child's performance makes them feel wanted and can help them become great people.

Let's help our children cope with their results rather than neglecting them and letting them die in silence regardless of the marks scored.

All candidates will be slotted to join Form 1 under the 100 per cent transition to secondary school thus your support as a parent will give them hope to study well, do and become better.

Some candidates performed poorly in their KCPE exam but still worked smart in high school and performed better than those who attained the highest marks in KCPE.

Therefore, this is a call to parents and guardians, to accept their results, support them and they will be propelled to put more effort into their next phase of life.
