As the world develops and evolves in the digital era, some people feel it does not fully accommodate the entire society.
This has caused a rift between the youth and the elderly, where the latter are not knowledgeable and feel left out while the youths may be unable to guide them.
The old folks may at times end up losing money in a case where they are unable to do any sort of transactions due to their age.
They end up giving confidential information to the wrong people and in turn get robbed.
Digital technology increasingly steamed up during the lockdown period where there was a cessation of movement and ban on gatherings.
Through technology, people were able to host conferences, meetings and other instances learning was conducted online.
This was however to the advantage of the literate and tech-savvy people while others felt disenfranchised and disadvantaged.
In society, people have a different level of education and this has led to the technology gap.
People with higher education and those exposed to the digital world at an early stage and ready access to the internet have a high probability of employment compared to their counterparts who have less exposure to the digital world.
This, therefore, creates a gap between the two groups in society.
In the rural areas where there is poor infrastructure such as poor networks, people are left out in the digital world since they cannot access the internet as compared to people in the urban centre where development is full and has good infrastructures.
Digital technology has undermined some due to social-economic status.
Children from families with high social-economic status have a good chance of accessing digital technology as they can purchase electronic gadgets such as smartphones, computers, laptops which are necessary and can acquire enough knowledge.
However, the less fortunate children from low social-economic status who can barely acquire a good education leave alone digital technology accessories are disadvantaged and left out.
Therefore in as much as digital technology is bringing into society a wide variety of benefits, not everyone will fully benefit from it due to our differences in our education level, age, development and social-economic differences which are not easy to overcome.
Let's practice inclusivity in society.
