An Act of Parliament in 2003 saw the establishment of the Constituency Development Fund.
On April 15, 2004, the Act came into effect- a brilliant idea to support grassroots development projects through equitable distribution of development resources across regions and control imbalances in regional development brought by partisan politics.
However, all the good intentions that were envisioned in the Act have been rapped by both politicians and those in power.
The funds have been used to punish those who didn’t vote in a certain Member of Parliament.
We have unequal distribution of funds based on loyalty to the government in office, clan and whom you voted for. Until then you will not feel the effect of the program.
We have thieves running the show in any constituency’s office.
Corruption being witnessed is unspeakable-we have a good number of students who cannot be able to continue with their studies.
There should be an audit from private firms to help keep track of how the money is being used.
Political goodwill from the respective members is needed for equitable distribution of the funds as per the need of each area.
Voting is a constitutional right and should not be used as punishment.
Kenyans need services whether they supported a certain leader or not.
