Female genital mutilation has for a long time affected women in various parts of the country.
However, it's time we shed off unnecessary cultural practices.
Different organizations, youth groups, community-based organizations, human rights activists, scholars, churches and NGOs have played a huge role to end this vice but we still have cases where FGM is practised.
Maybe it’s time we integrated men and the media as part of the solution.
Men in most cases have been branded as superior beings. They hold the powers to control, build or even destroy.
Men have not been fully tapped into to champion an end to FGM.
By using different media platforms, they can hold live discussions, seek counsellors and start education programs to curb this vice.
They can easily be good agents.
Men should also be enlightened on their responsibility in their daughters’ lives.
They can train and teach them against cultural practices that do not add value to their lives and make them understand that the world has evolved and everything else is changing.
The government and other relevant stakeholders however should chip in and propel such kinds of campaigns.
Let's take a different trajectory and define ourselves by providing a safe growth environment for our girls.
