With 46 per cent of Kenya’s population, which adds up to 21.9 million, below the age of 18; this means by the year 2032 more youth will be eligible to vote.

This means the youth will sway elections going forward. The youth have always voiced concern that in the Kenyan political landscape their opinion is not considered.

They are unhappy with how things are run and last year, for the first time in the history of the country, they made their rage known when they protested against Finance Bill 2024, forcing the firing of an entire Cabinet by the President.

They made their voice heard. What the current leadership needs to do is ensure the youth are issued with national identity cards to enable them take part in voting for future leaders.

This way they will not only be allowed to exercise their constitutional, democratic rights but also allowed to make choices for the future of our beloved nation.

Those in power must not stop the youth from getting these vital documents but instead fast-track the process of issuance of IDs to youth across the entire nation.
