This week Israel exploded pagers and walkie-talkies belonging to Hezbollah in Lebanon. Israel is clearly trying to provoke Hezbollah to go to war.
Last year Israel invaded Gaza after the heinous Hamas attack on October 7. Over 60 percent of Gaza has been flattened but Hamas is not yet defeated.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has now set a new military goal – to make northern Israel safe enough for its residents to return home – yet Hezbollah is a much tougher opponent than Hamas and the IDF is drained by its year-long incursion into Gaza.
In April Israel only managed to fend off a barrage of missiles fired by Iran, Hezbollah and the Houthis with the help of the air forces of Britain, France, Jordan and the United States.
Netanyahu and his right-wing allies are trying to provoke a regional war. They want to force America and Europe into an all-out conflict with Iran and its proxies. This would be a disaster for the whole world.
Israel cannot defeat Hezbollah or Iran, even with the help of its Western allies. The only solution is political – the acceptance of political autonomy for a Palestinian state.
