POLITICAL OPPOSITION

Martha Karua should reconcile with Kalonzo

Martha Karua should make up with Kalonzo Musyoka because Kenya needs Azimio to be a united forceful parliamentary opposition.

In Summary

•  Kalonzo Musyoka is not happy that Martha Karua has formed her own Central Kenya grouping

• Many Azimio MPs are now overtly or covertly supporting the Ruto government.

The Azimio coalition is in  turmoil as it appears than both Martha Karua and Kalonzo Musyoka want to stand for President in 2027.

There is nothing wrong with that but they should stand as official candidates of Azimio if they do stand. Kenya needs large influential political parties, not fragmented tiny irrelevant parties that can be manipulated by whoever is in power.

Azimio is not totally to blame for the present state of affairs. A large number of Azimio MPs have crossed to the government side leaving mainly the ODM MPs to hold the fort. Kenyan political culture unfortunately encourages loyalty to whoever is in power rather than loyalty to a political party or set of policy proposals.

President Ruto has crafted a strong government party with USA. We thought President Kenyatta had done the same with Jubilee but it disintegrated after 2022.  Hopefully UDA will last longer than that.

It is now incumbent on Azimio to stick together and provide Kenya with an effective opposition in Parliament.

Kalonzo is right about Karua- she should return to the fold and compete for the Azimio nomination, rather than  gambling with her new Central Kenya outfit Kamwene.
