America is in crisis as most Republicans still refuse to accept Joe Biden as the legitimate winner of the 2020 presidential election. They insist without evidence that Donald Trump was the winner and that his victory was stolen by shadowy forces.
Democracy in America is now on shaky ground because voters and politicians deny legitimate results.
Unfortunately, Martha Karua, vice-presidential candidate in 2021 and once a flagbearer for the second liberation, has fallen into the same trap.
She says that she respects the court verdict but disagrees with it because the court ruling might not represent the truth.
These public utterances by Karua encourage Azimio supporters to refuse to accept the election result, or any result that does not favour them. And if Kenyans do not believe in democracy, that opens the door to dictatorship.
The Raila petition did not produce any hard evidence of rigging. That is why the Supreme Court called it 'hot air'.
Unless Karua can produce that hard evidence (eg a falsified Form 34A), she should keep quiet and accept William Ruto as her President, as well as the President of the very many Kenyans who voted on August 9 for Raila Odinga.
