Kenyans have been bombarded with campaign messages for months. All that will come to an end on Tuesday, the much-anticipated election day.

Politicians, from the morally repugnant to clean-living candidates, have dominated national discourse via radio messages, social media, newspapers and TV. Wherever you turn, chances are you are having to see or hear a campaign message.

Many of these messages are not worth your time. They are cheap, selfish propaganda shoved down our throats hoping we shall not think through the rubbish we are expected to believe.

Since the mayhem of 2007-08, every subsequent election would be incomplete without the trauma of that ugly period haunting the ordinary voter.

This year is no different. Every conversation in public transport, in offices and markets are dominated by only one fear – violence.

It is with that past in mind that we call upon every Kenyan voting or not voting on Tuesday, to make every effort to keep the peace regardless of the degree of provocation they might come under.

Our wobbly economy has yet to clear the destructive effects of Covid-19 that decimated jobs and lives.

We call upon the IEBC, the police, politicians and the general public to work hand in hand to deliver free and credible election devoid of the tensions that trigger violence.

We urge voters to think with their heads and not hearts when making their choice of leader.

Quote of the Day: “Making peace is not a simple endeavor. It is a constant struggle. But its complexity should not overshadow its purpose.”

Shimon Peres

The Israeli president and Nobel Peace Prize laureate was born on August 2, 1923
