City lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi has said that he will not pay for Twitter verification.

His statement comes barely 24 hours after the social media platform decided to do away with all legacy verifications.

According to Ahmednasir, it will be unlawful for him to pay for the monthly subscription to the richest man on earth, when the same amount can feed a family in Kenya for a week.

"It is Haram (unlawful) to pay $8 dollars a month to the richest man in the world Elonmusk when the same can feed a family in Kenya for a week. I will not pay it!" he said.

He joins a long list of public figures who have vowed not to pay for Twitter verification.

Politicians, celebrities, media companies, and journalists lost their badges on April 20, after failing to subscribe to Twitter Blue.

The changes on Twitter came after Business mogul Elon Musk bought the platform last year.

Users who have subscribed to Twitter Blue will get prioritised rankings in conversations and search.

They will also see approximately twice as many Tweets between advertisements in their following timelines.

The users will be able to add bold and italic texts o their Tweets and post longer videos of up to 1080p video uploads.
