Hundreds of mourners to attend Magoha’s burial in Umiru

The body arrived at in Siaya on Friday ahead of his burial on Saturday

The body of former Education CS George Magoha arrived at Yala Township Primary School shortly after 2pm on February 10.

Thousands of mourners are expected to attend the burial of former late former Education CS George Magoha.

Magoha passed away on January 24 at the Nairobi Hospital aged 71.

Azimio leader Raila Odinga is among those expected to attend the burial that will be taking place at Magoha's Umiru home in Siaya.

It is still not known whether President William Ruto and Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta will attend the burial.

Representatives from the government, his former colleagues and academicians are also expected to be in attendance.

Magoha's body arrived in Siaya on Friday aboard a Kenya Airforce helicopter ahead of his burial.

Siaya Governor James Orengo welcomed and condoled with Magoha's widow Barbara Magoha at their rural home on Friday evening ahead of the burial.

According to the programme, the day will begin with a procession by Academicians from the late Magoha’s Umiru home to Odera Akang’o University in Yala at 8:30am.

The body is then expected to arrive at Odera Akang’o University at 9:30am with tributes expected to begin at 10am.

They will include representatives from Maseno University, academicians, the Siaya County Government, a representative of Doctors/ Surgeons, a representative of former colleagues, Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo and a representative from the government.

Family tributes are then expected to start from 12.00 noon beginning with his brother John Obare, his son Michael Magoha and his widow Barbara Magoha.

The requiem Mass in honor of Magoha will then start at 12.30pm led by the Most Reverend Maurice Muhatia of the Archbishop of Kisumu.

The final blessing of the body is scheduled to take place at 3pm from where the family members led by the Clergy will accompany the body for the final burial rites at his home. 3:30pm, followed by the laying of wreaths.

Among those expected to attend the burial include Azimio leader Raila Odinga.

Former Jubilee Secretary Raphel Tuju who will be the MC for the day on Thursday has announced that Magoha‘s funeral service will be politics-free.

Speaking during the requiem mass at Consolata Shrine on Friday, he said that the family had requested a politics-free service.

“The family has decided and requested most politely that on this occasion we keep the service dignified and that there will be no politics in our encounter,” Tuju said.

“Please bear with us as a family because it has been extremely difficult.”

Tuju explained that the family had been through a lot the past year and politics was not welcomed at the service.
